So who are Fathead & Pinhead?

All about Fathead (Ray Sievey)

I like Cheese on toast
As well as 'Fathead' I am also known as 'The Hippo', 'Bugner' (as in Joe) and 'Salad'.  I was born in a hospital and as luck would have it, was born on my birthday!  I am married to Michelle (Mich) and we have a lovely baby boy, Max who was born in November 2009.

In addition to cycling, I have a few other hobbies which include Football, playing for West Wickham Football Club (playing days are now numbered). I support Millwall and I have managed to visit 64 of the 92 league grounds. I am also a huge Horse Racing fan and until last year had been to the Cheltenham Festival every year for the previous 9 years.  To date I have been to 21 of the 59 courses in the UK.  As you can probably tell, I am a bit geeky and have Excel spreadsheets recording the stats :-)

I have run both the London and New York marathons.  I am also a keen fisherman (PB Carp of 22lb 8oz), a keen
photographer (I know I should remove the red-eye from my pic with Photoshop) and a Real Ale enthusiast (member of CAMRA).  So as you have probably worked out, my wife is an Angel, putting up with me as I am always doing something.  However, she is a footy fan; ex Leeds Utd season ticket holder (BOOO), now enjoys coming horse racing with me and enjoys a pint of real ale, but has categorically told me that she will NEVER come fishing.

In addition to my daytime job as a Training Consultant for a European Bank, I am also a qualified Professional Toastmaster.  So (quick plug), if you need a Toastmaster for a wedding or event, click
HEREBy the way I am unavailable during the first three weeks in September 2010 :-)

All about Pinhead (Scott Hamilton)

My head is so small, this is a thimble on my head
Hi, I'm Scott and it's true, I have a small head.  But then compared to Ray, King Kong has a small head! Ray and most of his family affectionately know me as 'Pinhead' now; others know me as 'Camel', 'The Hoof' and 'Hoofmeister' for reasons we won't go into.

I live with three women (not what some of you might be thinking!), my Fiancée, Amanda and my 2 girls, Sophie and Rebecca.  Yes, I know what you're thinking now, and yes, you're right.  It's difficult, very, very, difficult!

My passion has always been fishing (PB Carp of 27lb 8oz, think mine's bigger FH) which I have been doing for many years now.  This got me into photography, and Ray is responsible for getting me back into cycling.  I have always cycled for pleasure but only got into it seriously just over a year ago.  Last June I signed up for my first fund raiser and raised £700 for Care International to cycle 210 miles in 3 days from Paris to London!  So as you can see, I'm mad, don't do things by half and am easily influenced!

Other passions of mine include music, movies, drinking (wine & Jack Daniels, not together, well not yet anyway!) and food.  It is also true that I have an eating disorder.  I don't stop eating!  I love my food and should be the size of a house.  If you see Ray and myself together, try not to mix us up ;O)

I work in IT Support for a French Bank in London and this is where I originally met Ray.  As you will see from our website, we have many shared passions and are very alike and yet in other areas we are like chalk and cheese.

Fathead on Pinhead

Well, I am a huge football fan, Scott doesn't really follow football.  I enjoy Horse Racing and gambling, Scott wouldn't know one end of a horse from the other and is as tight as a duck's arse (only joking fella).  I can quaff Real Ale all evening, Scott is under the table after one and a half glasses of Pinot Grigio.  So as you can tell, we have a lot in common ?!

But, we both have a passion for fishing and that is how we became mates. We were working as contractors at a Bank and found out that we were both anglers (over a cup of tea and a custard cream). I have spent many hours with Pinhead beside a lake (i'm fishing, he's eating), so much so, that the wife was beginning to question when I was spending another night or two away night fishing with Pinhead.

When I suggested LEJOG last year, despite Scott only just taking up cycling he said yes straight away.  In the 4 years that I have known Pinhead, we have never had a crossed word, which no doubt means that we will now have a punch up on the first day of the ride and cycle in silence for 16 days :-)

The one thing I am worried about is if Scott will actually have a bike in time for the challenge (he is buying a new bike for the ride.  This man researches more than most people breathe, so he will look into 4027 different bikes, before deciding which one to purchase.

And now for the soppy bit...

Pinhead is a really genuine bloke, with a heart of gold and a good mate!

Pinhead on Fathead

I have had the ‘pleasure’ of knowing Ray for quite a few years now and we have shared many a day or night working, fishing or cycling.  In this time I have come to realise many of Ray’s qualities and many more of his frailties.

Ray has the most ‘selective’ hearing I have ever known.  Living with 3 women you kind of get used to this treatment but Fathead’s is next level!  He blames this on an old war injury or something (sounds like Uncle Albert!)  Even when fishing, I have to sit on a certain side to ensure a reasonable chance of decent conversation.

He has also a numerous occasions whilst out on the bank set the unofficial record for eating his dinner quicker than I can get mine open.  Again, this comes back to his Territorial Army days and thinks we could be attacked at any moment (if he ignores me again, he may well be!)

One thing I’m sure that others who know him can vouch for is Ray’s failure to return calls, texts and just about any other means of communication (although haven’t tried carrier pigeon yet…)  Now I know Ray is a betting man and I’m sure if he was honest when asked the odds on him getting back to anyone 80% of the time, the odds would not be good.

But, for all his faults, I know that he means nothing by them.  He would always be there for his family and friends no matter what, and under his laddish charms, he is a gentle sole who really cares.  He has a wonderful family and I am blessed to know him.  He is, and will always be a good friend.
